Hello STC Family and Friends and welcome to our blog! We’re so excited to have the opportunity to share tips, tricks, and information that you could use to support your child’s growth. But first, let us introduce ourselves and tell you what we do.
The Speech Therapy Center is a woman-owned business, started by Krista Healy, CCC-SLP. Krista’s passion for speech-language therapy and motivation to become a business owner resulted in the opening of our center in January of 2020. Since then, STC has grown by adding multiple clinicians and by servicing families all around the greater Boston area and the North Shore.
Here at STC, our team is composed of Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) who are trained to work with a variety of speech and language disorders (in addition to feeding and myofunctional therapy!). You might wonder, how does one become an SLP and how do we become qualified to work with such a variety of clients? Well, SLPs complete rigorous undergraduate and graduate programs that are composed of both classwork and clinical training. Following our graduate coursework, we must pass an exam called the ‘Praxis’ and are then able to treat with supervision as Clinical Fellows. Following our fellowship of approximately 9 months, we become certified and licensed under our state and governing association called ASHA (American Speech and Hearing Association). As we work and gain experience, we can choose to specialize in a certain area or continue to practice as generalists.
Here at STC we are all generalists but some of us have additional specialty trainings such as myofunctional therapy, feeding therapy, and treatment of written language disorders. Additionally, we all have areas that we are specifically passionate about treating!
